What You鈥檒l Learn

As a student in our Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program, you鈥檒l develop the high-impact skills and theoretical knowledge to advance system-level change within schools and districts. Alongside nationally recognized faculty, you鈥檒l examine ethical decision-making in educational leadership to promote social justice, equity and inclusion in diverse learning environments. You鈥檒l graduate with a comprehensive understanding of policies, regulations, and laws in education that impact the access and needs of historically marginalized groups. Our powerful, ethics-focused curriculum will prepare you to address systemic barriers to education through data-driven initiatives, strategic planning and policy development, ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students.

This track is ideal for professionals seeking advanced leadership roles across schools, community organizations and higher education. It focuses on systems leadership, research and organizational change.

Track Overview

  • Courses offered in flexible formats, including fully online, hybrid, and in-person
  • Three-year program
  • 60 credit hours total
  • Up to 24 credit hours can be transferred from a master's degree
  • 36 credits must be completed at 糖心官网

Eligibility Requirements 

Candidates must meet all the following foundational requirements:

  • At least two years of full-time teaching or school/community leadership experience is required before enrollment. Four years of recent part-time experience is also acceptable.

  • MAEd, MEd, or MAT coursework successfully completed in educational field
  • Graduate course in Statistics with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale)
  • Graduate course in Curriculum and Instruction with minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale)

This track is designed for busy educators who seek to earn the Illinois State Board of Education Principal Endorsement, which prepares leaders for principal and other school administrative roles.

  • Courses offered in flexible formats, including fully online, hybrid, and in-person
  • Three-year program
  • 72 credit hours total
  • Up to 24 credit hours can be transferred from a master's degree
  • 48 credits must be completed at 糖心官网

EdD in Educational Leadership Program Admission Requirements

  • A master鈥檚 degree in an education-related field, including MAEd, MEd, or MAT
  • Graduate coursework in Statistics with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale)
  • Graduate coursework in Curriculum and Instruction with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4-point scale)

Eligibility for the ISBE Principal Endorsement (PK鈥22) Licensure Track

The following additional requirements must be met:

  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Be currently working in a PreK鈥12 educational setting
  • Meet all Illinois State Board of Education requirements, including four years of teaching or school support personnel experience

The Principal Endorsement will not be issued to out-of-state students or international students who do not hold an IL PEL and/or meet all ISBE requirements for endorsement.

Today鈥檚 educational landscape needs leaders who can address modern challenges in increasingly diverse learning settings. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment for postsecondary teachers will grow by 8% from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations, while the need for postsecondary education administrators is expected to grow by 3% during the same period.

The process for financing a degree can seem daunting, but you do have options. In addition to loans, the School of Education offers a limited number of scholarships and grants. You may apply for them after you are accepted and have registered for your first course. Federal Stafford loans are also available through the Office of Financial Aid.
